Opera Shop Shifts

Welcome to the Opera Shop Volunteer Schedule!

San Francisco Opera has maintained a lively and profitable boutique for many years, and our patrons return enthusiastically year after year to find stylish clothing, unique jewelry, books, and one-of-a-kind mementos of their evenings at the Opera. All sales proceeds benefit San Francisco Opera.

The shop is managed by the Opera and staffed by a friendly and dedicated crew of volunteers who give their time to make sure patrons find what they are looking for. Volunteers are expected to make the shop experience enjoyable thereby increasing our profitability. Merchandising means keeping the shop stocked and accessible. Volunteers will assist in keeping shelves full, straightened and bringing any problems to the attention of management. Whenever possible, volunteers speak with patrons about the merchandise, help with selection, sizing, price checks, etc. Customer service simply means making sure the customer is happy with their purchase and experience. Because of our outstanding track record in this department, we have many regular, returning customers. Volunteers have much to do with the success of the Opera Shop and their efforts are greatly appreciated.

As a benefit, volunteers are typically seated in the theater for all but sold-out performances. The Box Office provides seats based on availability and seats are not guaranteed. When seats are not available due to a performance sell-out, volunteers are welcome to stand in the two standee locations (rear orchestra or fourth floor balcony) or watch the performance from HD monitors in selected locations in the Opera House.

You may browse the available shifts and sign up by clicking “Respond.” Once you have responded to a shift, you will receive automatic reminders from the Volunteer Portal about your shift. Please note that you will not be able to respond to a shift until you have created your account in the Volunteer Portal.

Opera Shop Shifts will be available on a first come, first served basis.
